In 2013 GPLT partnered with the Trust for Public Lands and the National Park Service American Battlefield Protection Program to protect 132 acres of the Lost Mountain Battlefield. GPLT privately owns and protects this land to ensure that it remains in a natural state and its historic value is protected for perpetuity.

Lost Mountain

Lost Mountain served as the southerly anchor for a 10-mile defensive line installed from Brushy Mountain to Lost Mountain in an attempt to stop the advancement of General Sherman's Atlanta Campaign during the Civil War. Its high elevation was advantageous for signaling, observation and defense.  It is considered part of the theater in advance of and including the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield.
